Services and Rates

Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, you are an artist. As an editor, my job is to help you realize your vision and allow it to shine as brightly as possible. To that end, I offer a range of services we can tailor to your needs and the specific requirements of your current project. Pick the level of detail that’s right for you, mix and match, or contact me with special requests.

I calculate pricing using the industry standard 250 words per page. Publisher submission guidelines often call for manuscripts to be double spaced with a 12 pt, monospaced (fixed width e.g. Courier, Consolas, Lucida Console)  font and 1″ margins all around. This won’t necessarily give you 250 words per page, but it will get you close.

Literary Edit, $3-3.5/page:
The full treatment for already finished manuscripts: a Content Edit and a Prose Polish (see below for details). Because some writers are more practiced at the craft than others, I determine the exact rate per page for each individual project by reading a multiple-chapter sample of the manuscript to be edited.
If you’re about to self-publish, this is your best option.

Content (aka Substantive or Developmental) Edit, $2/page:
I analyze the structure of your manuscript (pacing, plot points, character development, theme, etc), identify weaknesses and work with you to fix them.

Prose Polish (aka Line edit), $1.5-2/page:
I edit your manuscript for grammar, clarity, consistency and flow. When a page does not need heavy grammar corrections, I may also point out missed opportunities to show rather than tell or to use stronger, more vibrant words. Because some writers are more practiced at the craft than others, I determine the exact rate per page for each individual project by reading a multiple-chapter sample of the manuscript to be edited.
I offer a $0.50/page discount on my Prose Polish for manuscripts I have performed a Content Edit on.
Note: If I determine that your manuscript needs heavy edits, I may require you purchase a Personalized Self-Editing Guide and spend a few weeks self-editing before I will perform a professional edit. I retain the right to reject your manuscript, even after you have bought and used a Personalized Self-Editing Guide from me, if I do not feel the manuscript has been significantly improved. When you hire me to edit your work, I expect to edit, not to revise or interpret the text for you; I will return your manuscript if I feel it is beyond the scope of an editor’s job. Additionally, I reserve the right to refuse any manuscript without explanation.

Personalized Self-Editing Guide, $79
I review the first few chapters of your manuscript and find your most common grammar mistakes and weak writing habits; then I create a personalized guide for you describing what those mistakes are, why they hinder reader comprehension or enjoyment, and how you can fix them.

Payment must be made through Paypal.

If none of my listed services are exactly what you’re looking for, but you want help with your manuscript, contact me with your request.

Disclaimer: I devote myself completely to your work, but no editor can guarantee that once your manuscript leaves his/her hands it will be perfect, an agent will pick it up, or it will become a best-seller. I am no exception.
